If I Seek Therapy, Does that Mean I'm "Crazy" or Mentally Ill? No. Just because you are seeking services does not mean you're "crazy". Many people seek therapy for personal growth or because they need help managing the challenges life presents us at one time or another. Seeking outside help from a trained professional is one way to work through a difficult time.
Will Therapy Help Me? There is convincing evidence that most people who have at least several sessions of psychotherapy are far better off than individuals with emotional concerns who are untreated. Therapy can help you come to a better understanding of yourself, your symptoms, and the struggles you’re facing in life. Once we begin to understand the roles your symptoms and struggles play in your life, we can explore how you would like to exist in the world and set and reach your goals together.
Remember, certain goals require more time to reach than others, and you may feel worse before you feel better. This is normal. People often feel a wide variety of emotions during therapy, and you may have difficulty at first discussing painful and troubling experiences. However, working through these difficulties and processing your painful feelings can lead to better outcomes and emotional health in the long-run.
Where Do I Begin? Give me a call to schedule at (812) 550-2760. You will first schedule a new patient appointment to speak with me about your concerns, which typically lasts about 90 minutes. From there, we will discuss what kind of therapy plan is right for you.
