Psychotherapy

Adults: I employ a variety of interventions in working with adults in "talk therapy." My therapeutic approach is a blend of psychodynamic, interpersonal, and existential-phenomenological traditions. I pay special attention to how our early experiences play out in our current relationships, helping my patients to change past patterns that have left them feeling stuck, disappointed, or angry. I typically ask my patients to bring to the appointment something that carries emotion with it to give us a good place to start.

Couples: I also use a variety of interventions in helping couples resolve their impasses, particularly Imago and Gottman approaches. Much like individual therapy, we will explore patterns each partner brings to the relationship in an effort to discern what each person is needing. We will then work to create new emotional experiences and patterns better suited to the relationship goals of the couple. As a part of our couple's therapy contract, we will discuss special considerations regarding confidentiality.

Families: Human beings do not exist in a vacuum; we exist in relationship to one another. Because others may impact the difficulties you are experiencing, we may discuss the appropriateness of family therapy. Family therapy appointments carry the same confidentiality consideration as couple's therapy appointments.
